What is hypertension?

Hypertension  is a disease of the heart and blood vessel abnormalities characterized by increased blood pressure. Hypertension  is now suspected as the major cause of stroke and heart.

How do we know increase our blood pressure?

The only way is by checking blood pressure. Blood pressure is divided into two, namely systolic and diastolic. Systolic is the pressure in the arteries that occurs when the heart pumps blood throughout the body. As for the rest of the diastolic pressure in the arteries when your heart is at rest. This pressure is expressed in terms of fractional numbers. Written
above the systolic pressure, whereas diastolic below. If the results of measurements of blood pressure 120/80 mmHg, it means your systolic 120 and diastolic 80.

Danger of Hypertension

Blood pressure constantly high can cause complications in the patient's body organs.

The organs most often the target of damage due to hypertension include:

1. Brain: blood pressure causes stroke constantly high to cause damage to blood vessel walls called endothelial dysfunction. This triggers the formation of atherosclerotic plaques and thrombosis (excessive clotting). As a result, clogged blood vessels and if a blockage occurs in the brain blood vessels can cause a stroke.

2. Eyes: causes hypertension and retinopathy can cause blindness

3. Cardiac: Coronary Heart Disease causes (including heart infarction), heart failure.

· Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). In addition to the brain, blood vessel blockage can occur in coronary arteries and can lead to coronary heart disease (CHD) and heart muscle damage (infarction Heart).

· Heart Failure. In patients with hypertension, cardiac workload will increase, the heart muscle will adjust so that the cardiac enlargement occurs and the longer the heart muscle relaxes and the reduced elasticity, which is called decompensation.

As a result, the heart can no longer pump blood from the lungs and accommodate so many fluid retained in the lungs and other body tissues which can cause shortness of breath or edema. This condition is called heart failure.

4. Kidney: Chronic Kidney Disease causes, Terminal Renal Failure
Hypertension can cause blood vessels in the kidneys shrink (vasoconstriction) that disrupted the flow of nutrients to the kidney and cause damage to kidney cells that eventually happened impaired renal function.

If not addressed can lead to Chronic Renal Failure or Kidney Failure Terminal which can only be treated with dialysis (hemodialysis) or renal transplant.
